2024 Virtual Global Learning Fellows Program Recipients
2024 Virtual Global Learning Fellows Program Recipients Selected
The Office of International Affairs (OIA) is delighted to announce the 2024 cohort of the Virtual Global Learning Fellows Grant Program. This is the largest cohort since the program began in 2020 with Fellows representing five IU Indianapolis schools.
OIA’s Virtual Global Learning Fellows Grant Program provides faculty with $2,000 to learn about the teaching method of virtual exchange and implement a virtual exchange module in their course and then supports them throughout the process. Staff who support teaching activities can also apply. While this professional development is normally delivered by the OIA, the 2024 VGL Fellows will receive professional development delivered by Florida International University’s Office of Collaborative Online International Learning (FIU COIL). They will learn about the COIL model of virtual exchange, design a COIL collaboration with an international partner, and implement the collaboration in their course between Fall 2024 and Fall 2025. Fellows who successfully complete the professional development will earn a microcredential conferred by FIU COIL to formally recognize their knowledge and skills.
This year's Virtual Global Learning Fellows are:

- Karen Baldner, Herron School of Art and Design

Virtual exchange is a teaching method that uses technology to connect people for education, exchange, international collaboration, and intercultural and global learning. Virtual exchange is often used interchangeably with the term collaborative online international learning (COIL) and has been shown to be an effective way to internationalize the curriculum, providing low-cost, high-impact, and project-based global learning at home.
